Set to open on March 5, 2016, the GRAMMY Museum is expected to be a main attraction in the Mississippi Delta.

After six years of establishing a firm foundation in Los Angeles, California, the GRAMMY Museum at LA Live has partnered with the Cleveland Music Foundation to expand its observance of music to Mississippi. The Mississippi GRAMMY museum will be the first GRAMMY museum built outside of LA.

“Many music historians agree that Mississippi is the cradle of American music and credits Mississippi with all different forms of music such as country, rock-n-roll, blues, and gospel.  Mississippi is the perfect choice for a museum, certainly the second one in the world, with the music history right here,” said Havens.

The grand opening will include a Beatles exhibit, “GRAMMY Beatles 2016: From Cavern to Candlestick Symposium.” According to the press release on February 1, the symposium will “provide fresh new insight into how and why The Beatles impacted America in the 1960s — and beyond.”

The museum will host daily interactive exhibits, audio and video exhibits, films, and art artifacts.

“I think the Mississippi music table will be very interesting to our visitors, looking back at Mississippi’s music history and all the musicians and their achievements,” said director Nancy Havens. The museum will set to explore Mississippi’s contribution and impact on music.

The Mississippi GRAMMY Museum will share exhibits from its sister museum in LA that will rotate in and out of the museum every three months.
