CLEVELAND – On March 27, Hayden Kirkhart and Evelyn Greer, SGA Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates, hosted Pickleball Play and Complain at the pickleball courts behind Young-Mauldin Dining Hall. The campaign event was held as a way for the two candidates to share their vision for the future of Delta State University and for students to share their concerns, problems, and grievances.
Kirkhart and Greer spent the evening welcoming students to the event, answering questions, and listening to concerns while offering suggestions on how they could help in the future. All students in attendance were given pins to show their support of Kirkhart in her “Keep Kirkhart” campaign. The first students to arrive were also given free T-shirts to show their support for the candidates around DSU. Students were able to play pickleball with one another, socialize, and ask questions about the upcoming elections.

When asked why people should vote for her, Greer answered “I think people should vote for me because I am a true Delta Statian. I’ve been here for three years; I’ve been involved for three years. I’ve been in Senate, which Vice President chairs over Senate, so I know what students want to see. I’m asking students what they want to see. I’m listening, and what they want to see, what they want to change, or what they want to bring to campus is what I want to bring to campus. I want to be a voice for the students, all students.”
Kirkhart answered the same question with “Being a true Statesman here at Delta State, in the past four years I have been dedicated in athletics, communications, marketing’s office and the university’s services office, in SGA, in ODK, and Greek life. I’ve served in lots of different capacities on this campus, and I feel like from those experiences I’ve been able to interact with a lot of students and have a better understanding of the students’ needs. But also, it introduced me to a bunch of students and made my love for Delta State grow even more… I love its students and that’s why I want to continue to serve its students.”

Kirkhart expressed enthusiasm about improving the Forest E. Wyatt Fitness Center and opening up the new game room in the Student Union, while Greer said, “I would like to focus on comfortability on campus. One thing that I’ve been passionate about and actually hope to start working on soon is a writing bill for a commuters’ lounge in the Student Union. I believe that when we make campus comfortable, our students would be here more.”
Greer said her favorite thing about Delta State is “I can go to anybody and ask a question and either they know the answer, or they can point me to somebody who does. It’s comfortable to go and people questions.”
Kirkhart said her favorite thing about DSU would be that “The people are extremely motivating and encouraging… Being surrounded by people who want see you succeed and see the leader that you can be is really a truly special experience.”
Voting for the 2025-2026 SGA Cabinet will begin on March 31 and go through April 1. Students can vote for each position through the Statesman Life Canvas shell. The Delta Statement will continue to cover election news as it progresses.
