Cleveland, Miss.— As Delta State gears up for its annual Student Government Association Elections, junior Emma Claire Haley looks to continue impacting the university through the Chief Justice position.
Student Government Association elections are taking place in the Statesmen Life shell on Canvas from March 31 through April 1. Standout junior and marketing major Emma Claire Haley is running for the elected cabinet position of Chief Justice. During her three years at Delta State University, Haley has demonstrated an incredible work ethic and desire to make Delta State a better campus for all students. As a member of the Lady Statesmen cross country team, she has consistently finished as the top performer throughout multiple races in each season. In addition to her leadership and excellence on the cross-country team, Haley exemplifies the type of student that desires to leave Delta State better than she found it. She is involved in leadership positions across campus, currently serving as the Director of Athletic Affairs for the Student Government Association. She has valuable experience enacting important changes on campus as a member of the Student Senate. Haley has also served as the president and leader of Delta State University’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Through her positions on campus, Haley has been a voice for student athletes on Delta State’s campus, while building communication and leadership skills working with other members of the Student Government Association. Through her position as the Director of Athletic Affairs, Haley has demonstrated an ability to collaborate with her peers as well as members of the Delta State University Athletic Department to foster a better campus culture and promote athletic events and activities. Haley also has experience representing Delta State on the national stage. She has served as a representative for Delta State University, as well as the affiliated Gulf South Conference at the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum. Through this experience, Haley advocated for the students at Delta State University alongside peers from colleges across the country. Regarding her commitment to the students of Delta State, Haley emphasized, “Delta State University means so much to me and I would be honored to serve in this capacity! I have been able to serve as the Director of Athletic Affairs for the past two years and I have loved being part of an organization that gives back to the students, community, and university!” Haley’s multifaceted leadership experience demonstrates her desire to serve Delta State University and its students in the best way possible.
As Delta State approaches its centennial celebration in the 2025-2026 school year, Haley is a member of the committee ensuring that the centennial celebrates Delta State’s history, while embracing its future. She is the only undergraduate student that has been selected as a representative for the Centennial Celebration Committee. As an individual already working with other leaders at Delta State, Haley’s experience with Student Government Positions and knowledge of the centennial celebration makes her an outstanding candidate for the Chief Justice position. When speaking about her role on this committee, Haley stated, “This role is more than just a title to me, it’s an opportunity to continue the work I have started, overseeing the events and initiatives I have proposed throughout this school year while also implementing new changes that will benefit students for years to come. Delta State has been an integral part of my life, and I am dedicated to the University. As we enter this historic centennial year, strong leadership and unwavering commitment are essential, and I would be honored to serve as SGA Chief Justice to help guide Delta State into its next 100 years.” Students can vote for Haley for the Chief Justice position, as well as all the other executive cabinet positions through the Statesmen Life section of their canvas shell March 31 through April 1.
