Da Awards Ceremony A Success

Delta State’s literary magazine, Da, hosted its 2nd Annual awards reading on Wednesday, Feb. 17. A pretty good crowd showed up to support and listen to the winners read.

The emcee for the award ceremony was Stephanie Messer.

Kole Oakes placed first in fiction, second place in poetry, and received an honorable mention in informal essay. Oakes read sections of his fiction piece “Traps”, sections of his informal essay piece “Look at the Flowers”, and read his poem “Cycle of Eyes.”

Jess Bennett placed second in fiction and informal Essay, and received an honorable mention in poetry. Bennett read sections of his fiction piece “The Whiteness of the Whale,”sections from his informal essay “Animals Don’t Believe in Mercy,” and read his poem “Naturalistic Seasons.”

Nick Houston placed first and received an honorable mention in poetry. Houston read his poem “All Trains” that he placed first in. Houston said he came up with this poem after visiting New York and seeing a homeless man

Alecia Wilson placed first in informal essay. Wilson read sections of her essay “Nothing Minor”.
