Intramural Sports Can Be More Than A Hobby
With the Delta State fall semester of 2016 underway, student life is booming. Sororities and fraternities, academic clubs and sports teams, and others are hustling and bustling to make their mark on this semester.
Intramural sports have been going on since the second week of school. Students from all walks of life are coming together each week to compete for bragging rights and cool t-shirts.
The first leg of year included the popular recreational sport, ultimate frisbee. Each sorority had a team come out while others had two teams. There were also other female teams competing. The boys included many fraternity teams and also other boys from different clubs or campus life.
Two weeks of “regular season” play led up to the tournament and championship game. In the many gruesome matches, all the teams played their best in the nail biting, double-elimination tournament.
For the girls, the Maw-Maw’s came out on top, winning it all with an undefeated record.
For the guys, the Highlander team won it!
Concluding the ultimate frisbee championship, the very next week brought the beginning of flag football competitions. Once again, many students are coming out to compete.
The intramural fields are full of life. It’s a great place to exercise and stay healthy, while enjoying friendly competition. Even if you aren’t looking to compete, there is a walking track and plenty of places to sit and watch. So don’t miss out!
