Students Form Smiles with Smile Train
On Feb. 8, 2016, a booth in the student union was set up with candies and treats to be sold for a dollar a piece to raise money in support of Smile Train, a charity organization that provides cleft lip and cleft pallet surgeries for children. Later in the week, to boost donations a raffle was started at $5 per ticket, the prize being a stuffed animal.
Shelby Wilson, Kaitlin Harrison, and Shelby Hudspeth, were in charge of the booth. They decided to support Smile Train because they are a part of the National Student Speech, Language, and Hearing Association. Their major, speech pathology, also inspired them to help.
“Cleft palates and cleft lips make speaking difficult for the children, [and] we wanted to help,” one of the girls commented.
