The Delta
Have you ever stopped to look at at where you live and appreciate the scenery The Delta has to offer? It’s an excellent and beautiful place to live. What’s not to love about The Delta? Even the people who live here have colorful characteristics.
Each day I walk around, I learn to read people’s faces as we pass each other. It’s sometimes hard to understand what a person is going through by just looking at them, but also it’s difficult to tell who a person is underneath their surface. They might be a serial killer, prefer a different sexual partner, or even be a racist. You just never know with The Delta.
In today’s time, most of what we see now in the media is dealing with race related issues. Whether it is something with the presidential election, a young black male being murdered, or police brutality, it is all a race problem in America. The sad thing concerning racism is the fact that most people don’t believe it still exists. The real fact is racism is still here, has been and forever will be.
Racism doesn’t necessarily mean hate for a different ethnic group. It’s the misunderstanding of the ethnic group. Like with most things that we do not understand, we either become afraid of it and want it exiled or we tend to hate it not knowing anything about it. Living in The Delta, it is clear that there is a problem with racism. As a young African American male this bothers me because I am unsure of those surrounding me at times. I am not saying that I don’t trust those who are of a different race, but I am saying that it is unclear who people really are when they are around you. Instead of living as different races in The Delta, we should live as one delta culture like we claim.
