Student Organizations Hosts Social Injustices Forum
On Oct. 6, 2016 at 3:30 p.m., student organizations and leaders hosted a forum on social injustices in America. Leading this open conversation were representatives from the African American Student Council, the Reformed University Fellowship (RUF), the National Pan-Hellenic Council, and Mr. DSU Scottie Willis.
Students and other guests were able to share their opinions on a wide range of topics such as the effects of the police brutality and Delta State’s decision to fly the Confederate flag. The importance of the Black Lives Matter movement and the effect of racial stereotypes were also discussed.
Although there were few in attendance, students were able to amicably discuss these controversial issues. “Everyone definitely walked away more knowledgeable than they arrived,” according to Scottie Willis. “This was just the first step of many as we move forward as a student body, and we hope next time we can get even more students, faculty, and staff involved.”
