We sometimes overlook the people who suffer from mental health issues. Raising awareness of mental health is an opportunity to help people in need of assistance.

Your mental health is a very important part of your life, and it’s important to know about your mental wellbeing. How to realize a person has mental health issues

 When a person has mental health issues, it means they have a lack of mental and emotional stability.  Anything that messes with a person’s mental state is considered to be a mental health problem. In a sense, this could make them feel unstable. Relating this back to the article found on A Harvard Health . Depression, anxiety, insomnia and postpartum are all examples of mental health issues. People who suffer from these things are often blindsided by other people.  Many people on college campuses suffer from depression. 

A student who attends The University of Mississippi was willing to respond anonymously to a few questions posed by The Statement. This student describes her mental illness like this: “I’m drained; I just want to give up. I’m trying to cope with everything on my own; I have no one. I’ve been suffering from social anxiety and depression for months. No one noticed.

How does mental health affect your character?

 Mental health affects not only students but also a broader group of people as well. People have normalized having mental health issues to the point where seeking help has become a joke. As a result, So many people have lost their lives because no one took the chance to check on them or get them the proper help that they needed. 

A Harvard Health article points out that  “So many sane people have lost it because of trying to stay sane.”

There are many symptoms that come along with mental health issues. These symptoms include: Feeling sad or down,  Extreme mood changes of highs and lows, paranoia or hallucinations, major changes in eating habits, Excessive anger, hostility or violence, Suicidal thinking.

Sometimes symptoms of a mental health disorder appear as physical problems, such as stomach pain, back pain, headaches, or other unexplained aches and pains. If you began to experience any of these symptoms. See a doctor immediately this could be a serious health issue.

If you are a Delta state student and you are suffering from any form of mental health issues or the symptoms listed above, try to talk to someone. Whether it’s a friend, parents, teacher, professor, boss, or the school counselor, seek help if you need it.
